Karazin University has held a meeting of its Administration and students with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Latvian Republic in Ukraine, Juris Poikāns, which took place with the participation of Karazin University Vice-President Zarif Nazyrov, and the Director of the Center for International Cooperation, Oleksandr Fadieiev.
In his welcoming address, Mr. Nazyrov pointed out the orientation of our cooperation with Latvia towards restoring the former close relations, and voiced the idea of opening courses of the Latvian language.
Mr. Poikāns outlined the current challenges the European Union and European countries are currently facing, in particular the migration crisis, European integration of other cultures, the British exit from the EU problem and its possible consequences. “At present, there exists no alternative for the United Europe, the only way to preserve Europe’s well-being is to eliminate all the barriers. In this regard Ukraine is playing a key role in its future,” empathized Mr. Poikāns. He focused on the EU-Ukraine-Russia relations and Latvia's experience in terms of European integration. He wished Ukrainians to strengthen their national unity and take into account the interests of all the regions.
Mr. Poikāns’ speech excited a lively discussion whose participants, among others, were the University students, who addressed political, economic and legal aspects of EU integration.
