Karazin University held a public lecture Europe and Ukraine in the Last Decade given by the Polish politician, member of the European Parliament, Chairman of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, Professor Paweł Kowal.
The event was attended by Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv Jan Granat, Vice-Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv Jakub Koralewski, Karazin University Vice-President Zarif Nazyrov, Director of the Center for International Cooperation Olena Shapovalova, Director of the Ukrainian-Polish Academic Center for Science and Culture Tetiana Bitkova, Director of the Central Scientific Library Iryna Zhuravlova, faculty, staff and students of the University.
"Over the last two years the University has regularly met with members of the European Parliament. In particularly, the University received President of the European Parliament (2009–2012) Jerzy Buzek, famous Polish economists such as politician and reformer, Professor of Warsaw School of EconomicsLeszek Balcerowicz. All the meetings were held in the format of discussion enabling us to learn a lot of new useful information. I hope that today`s meeting will also become a similar debate," said Zarif Nazyrov in his opening speech.
In his lecture Paweł Kowal shared his view on development of Ukraine on its way to the European Union, the goals and peculiarities of Eastern Partnership, the reforms required for Ukraine, primarily in the field of law and economy, international security system, political parties, civil society development, etc.
"Now it is important to decide on how transformations in Ukraine should be implemented. I think it is useful for all Ukrainians to get acquainted with the Polish practice of transformations, particularly the initiatives of Leszek Balcerowicz, one of the founding fathers of the economic reforms in Poland. But we also made mistakes, which should be taken into account not to be repeated," pointed out Mr. Koval.
Within the lecture framework there was also held a presentation of the Ukrainian edition of the professor`s book Between the Maidan and Smolensk. Dialogue with Piotr Legutko and Dobrosław Rodziewicz.
