The process of appearance of the international law department in the University (V.N. Karazin National University since October 1999) started in the middle of the 19th century, namely in 1863. Its appearance gave the beginning to the international law school of the Eastern region, which is famous both in Ukraine and abroad. The department existed until 1920 and made a valuable contribution both into the educational and the scientific potential of the University. Such famous professors as S.M. Ornats`ky, D.I. After a long break connected with the changes in public administration and power in Ukraine, the activity of the international law department was revived on the basis of the School of International Economic Relations and Tourist Industry in 2011. For more than 20 years of state independence Ukraine has recommended itself as an independent subject of international law, that takes an active part in the activity of the United Nations Organization and other international and cross national political and economic organizations and alliances. This caused the necessity to prepare well-qualified specialists in intenational relations, namely specialists in international law in institutions of higher education in Ukraine.

The department of international law is an integral part of the School of International Economic Relations and Tourist Industry in V.N.Karazin Kharkiv National University.
