Getting to Know Israel: Cultural and Educational Events

On the initiative of the Center for International Cooperation and the Ukrainian-Israel Academic Center, Karazin University held a number of events devoted to introduction to Israel culture and traditions.

The guest of honor during the events was the Second Secretary of the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine, Director of the Israeli Cultural Center in Kharkiv at the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine Nelli Shulman.

“Israel is an extraordinary state with interesting history. And today we have an opportunity to be introduced to the values and traditions of Israeli people. Today’s events enable us to expand our knowledge about this country and enrich ourselves culturally,” said the Dean of the School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business, Professor Vadym Sidorov.

During the opening of the exhibition “Views of Israel” the visitors could see historical and modern views of Tel Aviv, the second largest city of Israel after Jerusalem for the size and significance. The exhibition presented seascapes, urban and panorama photographs.

During her meeting with students Nelli Shulman told them about the geographical peculiarities of the country, its language, official and unofficial holidays, kosher cuisine, Israeli wine-making, cultural traditions, scientific and educational spheres, diamond industry, attitude of the Israeli to medicine and sports, etc.

“Israel is a crossroad of the past and present, a country of contrasts, home of both noisy cities and quiet villages, where high skyscrapers border deserts,” emphasized Nelli Shulman.

During the introductory program there was held an opening of the distance-learning course “Jews and Christians: Polemics and Two-Way Influence of Cultures” that will be held within the framework of an online course of the Open University of Israel and last for three months.
