Lecture by Professor of Law, International Economic and Investment Law from Ecuador

On May 17, 2013 the School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University hosted a public lecture by Professor Jose Prieto on: Fundamental Principles of Intellectual Property Right Protection on the International Level.

The lecture was attended by first-year students majoring in International Law as well as faculty members of the Department of International Law.

During his lecture Mr. Prieto paid particular attention to the origins of intellectual property right, touched upon the peculiarities of protection thereof in European countries, the USA and South Africa states, particularly in Ecuador. He also gave examples of legal cases related to intellectual property right protection and decisions reached thereon. He made special mention of national-international law correlation outlining the challenges of referring to normative documents of the WTO countries when settling matters of intellectual property right protection and stressing the issues arising from correlation of intellectual property right and that of access to information.

The lecture was followed by an animated discussion with students asking questions, comparing laws of Ukraine on intellectual property right protection with their international counterparts and national legislation in the same area of other countries.
