Karazin University held a lecture by Professor of Law Jose Gustavo Prieto Munoz from the University of the Andes on “International Investment Law”.
“This topic will be interesting both for specialists and regular people. I hope the meeting will be useful for everyone present,” said Jose Gustavo Prieto Munoz.
The professor told the audience about the notion of political risk as well as about how the system of legal control of international investments works. Besides, during the lecture, the professor pointed out that the sources of international investment law now are about 6,000 international agreements, 2,833 of them being bilateral.
Jose Gustavo Prieto Munoz devoted considerable attention to revealing the essence of the notion of political risk. “When an enterprise starts investing into the state, the former faces a political risk. Investors lose confidence in the judiciary system of their country as there emerges a risk that the state will alienate them from conducting their activity. This is perhaps the answer to the question why investors avoid such investment agreements.”
