All-Ukrainian Research-to-Practice Conference “Modernization as Development Factor”

On April 17, 2013 the Department of Economic Theory of the School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University held the All-Ukrainian Research-to-Practice Conference “Modernization as Development Factor”.

The conference was opened by Dean Vadym Sidorov’s welcoming address.

The conference began with the Plenary Meeting where the first to take the floor was Professor Yevhen Voroviov, Head of the Department of Economic Theory of the University, who made a report titled “Modernization and neo-industrialization as overtaking development”.

Vivid interest was excited by the report “Factors blocking Ukraine’s modernization” made by Associate Professor Oleksandr Postupnyi, Head of the Department of Sociology and Political Science of the School of Business and Finance of the National Technical University “KhPI”. Moreover, the Plenary Meeting addressed a number of important issues of modernization:

  • Future of Ukraine’s economy; Post-transformational modernization or post-transformational crisis? (Professor Serhii Arkhiiereiev, Department of Economic Theory, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University);
  • State regulation of economy and its role in the process of modernization (Professor Marks Hurevychev, Department of Pedagogy, Psychology and Management of Social Systems, National Technical University “KhPI”);
  • Science as modernization factor (Professor Volodymyr Lazarenko, Department of Economic Theory, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University);
  • Interrelation between the modernization trends and global and specific problems of Ukraine (Professor Ihor Matiushenko,Department of International Economic Relations, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University);
  • Corporate social responsibility as economy modernization factor (Professor Olha Nosova, Head of the Department of Economics and Finance; Associate Professor O. Makovoz, Department of Economics and Finance, Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs).

After the Plenary Meeting the conference continued its work at the Section Meetings working in the following areas:

  1. Methodological foundations for economic modernization.
  2. Instrumental modernization of Ukraine – foundations for economic growth.
  3. Role of “modernization class” in the post-Soviet countries.
