On October 23, 2014 Oleksandr Beidyk, a famous scholar in the field of economics, recreational and tourism geography, professor of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, visited Karazin University.
Within the framework of the visit, the scholar held a meeting with faculty of the Department of Travel Business of the School of International Economic Relations and Travel Business. Full Professor Svitlana Yurchenko, Associate Professors Nataliia Danko, Polina Podlepina, Ivan Posokhov, senior lecturers Iryna Volkova, Iryna Shamara were among the presentees there.
The meeting addressed a number of the pressing issues concerning tourism and recreational resources, discussed the tourism development policy on the world and national levels.
According to Oleksandr Beidyk, nowadays the recreational and tourism complex of Ukraine only partially fulfills its potential. A number of reasons lie behind that. High taxes, unsettled issues with land privatization and private capital protection, lack of state support of state entrepreneurs, no regulation system of the foreign economic activities in the sphere of services, insufficient peopleware involved in the sphere of tourism, etc.
The scholar also emphasized that developing the recreational and tourism complex of Ukraine is a priority direction in the national economy and culture, an important factor of enhancing the international prestige of the country, a source of socioeconomic development of the regions, an important condition for preserving historical and cultural heritage.
