To mark the occasion of Victory Day, Karazin University held a series of festive events that began with laying flowers at the Monument to Student Battalion Troopers, student heroes who sacrificed their lives defending their Motherland in battle.
The event was traditionally attended by veterans of the Great Patriotic War, vice-presidents, school deans, faculty members, students of the University led by University President Vil Bakirov.
“Words cannot express all the feelings that overwhelm us. We are eternally grateful to our grandparents, parents, everyone who, in those turbulent years, fought for our freedom and after the end of the war participated in restoring the country destroyed by war, to veterans who set an example of patriotism, honor and dignity”, Vil Bakirov addressed those present.
Professor Serhii Kudelko made a report “Kharkiv University during the war” describing how the student battalions were formed and what challenges of war the Karazinites had to face.
Moreover, within the framework of the celebration, participants of the Great Patriotic War were awarded memorable medals of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. In particular, the awards were given to Anatolii Sokolov, Vasyl Chernysh, Vasyl Cherntsov, Natalia Sherstiuk and professor of the School of Philosophy Oleksii Kuts.
Besides, to mark the 69th anniversary of the victory, Karazin University community had prepared a gala-concert for veterans. The concert program included famous war poems and songs recited and performed by talented University students and the Univer vocal ensemble. Another item on the agenda was a dramatized presentation depicting the events of the tumultuous times. The festivities ended with a performance given by the University Academic Choir.
For reference. The Monument to Student Battalion Troopers was erected at Karazin University Main Building entrance on October 28, 1999. This symbolic monument is our way of honoring the heroic youth, a symbol of self-sacrifice and willingness to give all the energies and skills for people’s freedom.
